A third and final ‘DV awareness day’ was held at the Redcliffe Netball Association on Saturday, 21st June. In terms of ‘advocacy’, this was a successful day as we were able to connect with so many women and girls of all ages who are now aware of Zonta as an organisation and, specifically, our Redcliffe club. Many netball players wore orange socks and/or ribbons in support of Zonta. We gave away a great number of pens, wristbands, stress balls, and other promotional material as well as informative literature that outlined Zonta’s vision for the future of women and girls in all communities.
Thanks to IGA Clontarf who discounted mandarins and donated apples for our stall on this day.
Two club members took the opportunity to bake and their cake stall made almost $300, all of which will be donated to our ‘birthing kits’ program.
On the weekend prior, 15th June, we erected our marquee at the Redcliffe Dolphins. Here we once again were involved in advocating for women and girls, promoting our local club and the ‘Saying No to Violence’ campaign. The main game at this venue was televised, ensuring that our guard of honour with the ‘orange ladies’ would be viewed by far more than those spectators at the ground.
At all three venues where our DV tent has been erected this year (Peninsula Power, Redcliffe Dolphins and Redcliffe Netball), we received great support and promotion on public address systems and patrons were appreciative of our efforts in raising an awareness of violence against women.
